COMMITMENT 09
I Will take responsibility for my decisions and follow through on my commitments.
Learning objective: Make a commitment traceable from decision to verified completion.
1. Understand the commitment
Accountability is an agreement about ownership, timing, and evidence of completion. Record the commitment in language the people involved understand, make obstacles visible early, and renegotiate openly when a deadline cannot be met. Closing a task is not the same as verifying that it helped. A leader owns mistakes without treating every system failure as an individual fault.
Observable behaviors
- Record the owner, due date, and observable completion criterion.
- Escalate obstacles and communicate changes before the deadline.
- Verify the result with the people affected and record the learning.
Describe a recent moment when this commitment was difficult. What could an observer have seen or heard you do?
2. Practice and reflect
You promised a workflow change by Friday. On Wednesday, you learn it cannot be delivered. What should you do?
Read the facilitator’s explanation
Early, honest renegotiation protects trust and makes the next commitment credible. Completion requires evidence that the agreed action actually occurred.
Reflect: Which commitment did you fulfill or renegotiate, and how did you verify its result?
A Credo Coach can record learner progress after signing in.
3. Observe and coach
Choose the behavioral level supported by your evidence. Unobserved commitments remain unscored.
An action log showing owner, due date, completion criterion, actual outcome, and communication.
Suggested process measureCommitments completed with evidence by the agreed date / commitments due; explain renegotiations.
