Radiology Leadership Academy
An interactive operating model for systemwide mentorship and leadership development. Built on peer-reviewed evidence, designed for phased implementation across a multi-hospital enterprise.
The Academy Operating Model
The Academy rests on five structural pillars. Each pillar maps to a tab in this dashboard, and each is grounded in the published evidence on mentorship and leadership development in medicine. Click any pillar to jump to its tab.
Why an Academy, Not a Course
The literature is consistent: one-off leadership workshops change knowledge, not behavior. Programs that combine longitudinal cohorts, trained mentors, experiential projects, and structured evaluation produce measurable gains in leadership skill, confidence, retention, and advancement. An academy structure institutionalizes all four.
Mentor training remains the single most neglected lever: only about one third of published mentorship programs formally train their mentors, yet mentor competency is the strongest predictor of mentee outcomes.
Benefits Identified in the Evidence
Thematic benefits of structured mentoring in hospital settings, adapted from a 2026 comprehensive review (Ventimiglia et al.).
How to Use This Dashboard
Leaders: start with the Readiness 360° to score your system, then use the KPI & ROI Lab to build your business case. Program designers: work through Program Design, Curriculum, and Roadmap in order. Staff and mentees: explore the Curriculum tab to see the competency journey, and the Evidence Base to understand why the model is built this way.
Organizational Readiness 360°
Score your system across the eight current-state inventory domains. Move each slider from 1 (no capability or no data) to 5 (mature, measured, and resourced). The composite Readiness Index and radar profile update live, with tailored guidance for your weakest domains.

Mentor–Mentee Matching Simulator
Matching quality is one of the strongest predictors of mentorship satisfaction in the published literature, and programs that incorporate mentee input into matching report measurably higher engagement. Weight the five matching criteria below to model your matching philosophy. The simulator normalizes your weights and recommends an operational matching process.
Design Non-Negotiables
Six-Module Leadership Curriculum
A longitudinal 6 to 12 month cohort journey. Click each module to expand objectives, methods, and assessments. Every module carries CME credit and aligns with MOC requirements.
Competency Growth Simulator
Rate a participant (or yourself) on the seven core competencies before the program, then set an expected post-program level. The paired bar chart shows the projected growth profile that your evaluation plan should be designed to detect.
Tie these self-ratings to Kirkpatrick Level 2 (learning) and validate with 360° feedback at Level 3 (behavior).
Delivery Principles
Adult-learning principles govern every module: problem-centered cases over lectures, learner-driven goals, immediate workplace relevance, and structured feedback. Delivery is hybrid (virtual modules plus periodic in-person intensives), with a capstone leadership project applying learning to a real institutional problem.
Phased Implementation Roadmap
Five phases over 12 to 24 months. Click a phase band to see its tasks, deliverables, and exit criteria. Check off tasks to track real progress.
Cohort Wave Planner
Model how quickly the Academy reaches all 31 hospitals and how many leaders it develops along the way. Adjust the pilot footprint, the scale-up wave size, and the cohort density per hospital. The timeline, leader pipeline, and chart update live.
Change Management Thread
Running underneath all five phases: a communications plan with regular chair updates, participant orientation materials, a faculty newsletter spotlighting success stories, and early stakeholder involvement. Testimonials from pilot participants become the engine of scale-up adoption.
Live ROI Calculator
Very few published programs report return on investment, which makes a credible ROI case a strategic differentiator when seeking budget approval. Model your scenario below. All figures update live.
Replacement cost for a radiologist typically spans recruitment, locums coverage, onboarding, and lost productivity. Industry estimates commonly range from $500K to over $1M per departure; technologist and leadership roles carry lower but still material costs. Adjust to your finance team’s accepted figures.

Sustainability Engine
A program survives when it is woven into institutional norms. The cycle below shows the self-reinforcing loop the Academy is designed to create.
Staffing Model Comparator
Choose an operating model to see the FTE structure, strengths, and tradeoffs. The hybrid model is recommended for a 31-hospital system.
Budget Scenario Slider
Slide from pilot scale to full enterprise deployment. The cost envelope and composition update live.
Ranges anchor to the source analysis: a 3 to 5 site pilot at roughly $100K to $200K, scaling to $500K to $2M annually at full 31-hospital deployment depending on vendor mix and scope.
Protected Time Investment Calculator
Protected time of 0.05 to 0.1 FTE per mentor is a design non-negotiable and usually the largest hidden cost line in any mentorship budget. Quantifying it up front prevents the most common failure mode in the literature: mentors asked to volunteer on top of full clinical loads. Model the investment below.

The Bottom Line
A systemwide Radiology Leadership Academy is an investment with a defensible payback: retaining even one or two radiologists per year typically covers the full program cost at enterprise scale. The phased design caps early risk at pilot-level spend while the evaluation architecture builds the evidence needed to justify each expansion wave.
Personal Leadership Competency 360°
Where the Readiness 360 assesses the organization, this instrument assesses the individual leader. Rate yourself honestly across eight competencies drawn from the ACR Radiology Leadership Institute domains and the National Center for Healthcare Leadership model. Your profile, composite score, and a personalized development plan update live. Ratings stay in your browser and are never transmitted.
Scenario Decision Studio
Six realistic leadership scenarios drawn from the operational realities of a multi-hospital imaging enterprise: protected time disputes, union concerns, funding pressure, and coaching challenges. Choose the response you would actually take. Each choice receives immediate, evidence-grounded feedback, and your decision quality score builds as you go. There are no trick questions, but there are better and worse answers.
Program Charter Generator
A signed charter is the first deliverable of Phase 1 and the document that converts executive enthusiasm into accountable sponsorship. Configure the parameters below and generate a board-ready charter draft you can copy directly into your governance packet.
Mentorship Agreement Builder
A written agreement at the first meeting is a documented best practice: it sets expectations, normalizes accountability in both directions, and gives the program office a clean intervention point when a pairing stalls. Configure the terms and generate a ready-to-sign agreement.
